Review 9/12/2007

I cannot say enough negative things about Volkswagen of Santa Monica. In the last year, we have spent almost $7000 repairing our VW, even though we brought our car to this dealership for its regular service every 5000 miles for the previous two years.
They made three almost unbelievable mistakes: 1) Our clutch broke in January. At least part of this was under warranty (and perhaps all), but we were never told that. We found a good repair shop to do the work, but we paid about $2000 for it.
2) In our October 2006 service, we had brake pads supposedly replaced. In early March 2007, I spent an entire day in the shop because the brake pad was worn down to the nub. This repair cost several hundred dollars. The brake pad was either never replaced or replaced in an amazingly shoddy way.
3) Finally, our timing belt broke a week ago and the subsequent damage amounted to a $3800 repair. Even though the VW book specifically says that the timing belt should be replaced at 60,000 miles, this dealership never did this repair (or suggested that it should be done) at repeated services from 58,000 miles to 80,000 miles.
We have brought their repeated negligence to their attention and we are still waiting for them to be fair with us. We are going to try on our own to ask them to be fair one more time and then we may try to enlist the BBB's assistance.
