This company is absolutely the worst! I have a 15 yr. old cat, who up until two years ago, was in perfect health. I opened up a policy for him when he was a kitten, and have faithfully paid $50 a month since he was five months old. Luckily, I've barely had to use it, except for annual check ups and his yearly teeth cleaning, which they did reimburse. But watch out if your pet has something seriously wrong with them - that's when they'll act like you don't exist. At age 13 yrs., my cat was diagnosed with a liver, kidney and thyroid conditions. The conditions are chronic, and he'll need to stay on meds for the rest of his life. First VPI said they'd reimburse the meds. Then with every submission I sent, they'd kick it back, using every thin excuse in the book; for example, "the pet's name isn't on the form" - which is a ridiculous excuse, but furthermore, his name WAS be on the form. This has been ongoing since my cat's chronic problems have started in his old age, and he requires more ongoing care for typical elderly pet problems. Today I've reached my limit with this company. Two weeks ago, I spent over $500 dollars for bloodwork and a sonogram, which unfortunately diagnosed a tumor in his liver, and sent them the claim. VPI Pet Insurance had the nerve to send me a check for $19. And they completely kicked back the sonogram reimbursement - their excuse was "there was no diagnosis" on the form - and again, there was a diagnosis. It was clearly spelled out "Tumor diagnosis from sonogram." It's as though they'll reiumburse small amounts of money for wellness as long as your pet stays healthy. But as soon as your pet has something really wrong with them, the payments stop. And if the condition is chronic, you may as well not bother.
Today I'll be cancelling my policy with them. They're not helping my cat, and my $50 a month can be better spent contributing to a separate savings account for his vet care in his remaining years. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I truly hope someone shows their pets more compassion than they've shown mine.
