After getting bids from several contractors, we hired Glenn for our remodeling job. His bid was lower, and even more important to us, his timeline was significantly shorter (almost half the time!) of what the other contractors proposed. It sounded almost too good to be true, but we put our faith in Glenn as he came across as an honest, trustworthy guy who would be pleasant to work with. Judging by the number of years he has successfully worked in the business, we figured he must know what he was doing.
Our job was a big one. We completely gutted and remodeled a four bedroom, three bathroom house, including knocking down several walls, removing drop ceilings, rebuilding exterior walls after mold remediation, refinishing the garage, and redoing all of the ductwork (I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting!). We closed escrow on Friday, December 10th, and Glenn's crew began demo on Monday, December 13th. We moved into a completely renovated home on Friday, February 25th, barely two and a half months later.
We were amazed, as were our friends, family, and neighbors, who all had horror stories of much less-involved remodeling jobs taking six to twelve months or more to complete. During the project, a day did not go by that there were less than three or four guys working on our house, but more commonly there were more like seven or eight or more from several different trades. Even better than the fact that Glenn stuck to his timeline is that the work he and his tradesmen did is of the highest quality. From his tile workers, to his painters, to his drywall guys, I could not be more impressed with the quality of the work that they did.
We went with a very modern style in our home, which Glenn had not had much experience with, but it did not phase him at all. He quickly adjusted to our tastes and modified his techniques to suit our style. All of his tradesmen and workers were friendly and polite, and Glenn himself was a pleasure to work with. I never felt uncomfortable about approaching him with questions or changes (and there were more than a few!). He was very good about explaining each step of the process and keeping the lines of communication open, especially when it came to the budget. Any deviation from the original budget was a result of additions and changes my husband and I made rather than any hidden costs or deception on Glenn's part. Everything cost what he initially said it would cost, and as my husband and I made changes to the original plan, Glenn would always print up a new budget to keep us up-to-date as to where we stood.
Overall, we could not have been happier with Glenn and his crew. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend him to anyone I know. We took a bit of a leap of faith in hiring him because we found him through an ad rather than a personal recommendation, but I am so glad that we went with our gut feeling about him. When someone walks into our home for the first time, the first word out of their mouth is almost always "WOW!", and we have Glenn to thank for that.
