Terrible Experience-Extremely Rude-You are not allowed to question the research

July 12, 2021
I contacted, Lisa Townsend, The Adoption Specialist, in April of 2021.
She assured me that she could find my birth parents. I only had non-identifying information from Orange County, Orlando, FL. She called me back in a couple of weeks asking if I was interested in doing the search. She told me she had already found my birth father, but could not give me the results unless I paid her, so I signed 2 contracts. One for the birth mother ($1300) and one for the birth father ($1100). She told me it was a money back guarantee and she could find them in 30 days, but that she couldn’t give me the results until I paid her so I did.
She told me who my birth father was, but asked me not to contact them until the Ancestry DNA test came back. That took another 6-8 weeks so I didn’t start counting the 30 days since we were waiting on test results. Once they came back she said it was OK to make contact so I did. When the birth father’s daughter asked me to link our accounts on AncestryDNA we discovered that we did not have any common threads so I asked Lisa why and she said it was because Dawn was only on their but didn’t have a DNA test. I told Lisa that she said she did and so does her brother Gene, but they are not matching to me. Lisa said, “What do you think that means?” I said, ‘That we are not related!”
So, Lisa begins looking again, but at this point I am skeptical. I told Lisa I felt terrible about contacting the family and telling them that Mr. Drummond was my birth father and Lisa said, “Why?” I said “Because I just accused their deceased father of having an affair!” She gives me another name, but this person had 6 other siblings. I asked her how she knew it was him and she replied (and I quote) “Your birth father is deceased as it’s Jack XXXX. I gave your contact information for two of his sons it’s all in the PDF I sent you last week. Again you’re never going to be happy it seems like. I am done with this search I am closing this out and I will not be responding to any more emails I am so sorry you cannot be happy about any of this.” She acted like it was my fault that she made a mistake.
When I contacted Jack’s son, Scott, he asked me the same question. How do you know it was Jack when Jack had 6 other siblings? Why can Lisa not explain her research? My DNA was a cousin match with Robert Davis, so Scott and I are trying to back-track to the prior generation.
Lisa Townsend refused to accept responsibility for any of her flawed research and refused to return any money that I gave her. I’m not saying Jack isn’t my father, but I also don’t know that he is. I just wanted her to explain to me how she arrived at this person since the first father she picked was obviously a mistake.
I now have “Search Angel” looking into it and Scott, Jack’s son, has requested a DNA test to see if Jack is in fact my birth father. If he is not, hopefully it will be one of the other siblings.
