I called this company because we googled for a "dryer repair" and this one had the most reviews. The problem was the dryer was spinning but did not emit any heat. The preliminary charge quoted over the phone was $85 for a visit and estimate. The $85 charge will be waived if you complete the repair with them and you will only pay for labor and materials.
Steve, the technician arrived and dutifully inspected the problem and said the source of the problem was a heat sensor which was approximately two inches in length and half a inch wide made from plastic and other inexpensive materials. My estimation was that it should not be over $20 bucks.
I said okay, replace the sensor. He replaced the sensor and wrote out the bill. The total bill was $120 for labor and $85 for the sensor. There was a 15% discount for labor since I was a first time client.
I questioned the cost of the sensor and he said that was the cost. After paying the bill, I checked on-line for the cost of the sensor and it was in the range of 4.99 - 8.99 depending on where you search. It appears that the promise to waive the estimation cost of $85 was made by overcharging for material. Very sneaky.
I called the next day and asked why did a sensor that actually cost under $10 dollars cost $85 dollars. The person answering the phone could not come up with a reasonable answer and explained that the cost of the sensor is what their suppliers charge them????!!! I told her your suppliers are ripping you off.
The bottom line is, you can't trust even a simple repair anymore because of overcharges to the cost of materials (which was padded.) If anyone approached me on who to ask for appliance repairs I would not recommend this company again.
