Sears sells a very good garage door opener, but their installation is REALLY BAD.
I had some garage door problems, and GQL Garage Door Company came out to look at it. About 15 seconds after they stepped into my garage, they said, "Your garage door opener was installed wrong". Sears installed the opener originally, but GQL took it down, disconnected it, and installed it right.
Sears installed the garage door opener about 12-15 inches too far to the right, and the length was too long. The result: When the door was opened, the attachment from the opener pushed the connection at the door to the left and pulled some of the screws out. I have been arguing about this with Sears for more than 3 months, and we still have no resolution. Sears should refund the cost of the installation since they installed it wrong, and they should fix or replace the door.
Bottom line: Don't buy a garage door opener at Sears unless you have someone else install it. Sears subcontracts with companies to install the garage door openers, you pay Sears for the installation, but they will not take responsibility for the door installation. Buy your opener at Home Depot or Lowe's.
