Okay, so first, a little bit of background: I'm a difficult size to shop for, what with being busty and having hips, but not exactly model thin either. It's very hard for me to be able to find ANYTHING that fits me just right. So, when my (now)husband proposed to me, I knew I would have to order something that was able to be custom made. Looking online was difficult enough, since I was not thin as most women are and what I was looking for was something that wasn't commonly sought after: a Gothic wedding gown. I looked for days until finally my mother came across Belinda's site and showed me one of her gowns. I was absolutely awestruck. It was beautiful, and based off of one of my favorite faerie artists, no less! What really took me for sunrise, however, was how little black was on it (just the trim) yet how much I LOVED it. I didn't love the price (thank you economy), but it was my dream gown. Somehow, my mother was able to make it work, and we were able to order it a year in advance. Quick side note, if your wedding is less than 6 months away and you have been planning on it for longer than that, YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY CHOSEN YOUR GOWN, and not waited until the last minute! Dresses to the extent of Belinda's, especially when custom made, take time! It's insane to expect someone to drop everything they are doing to work on your order! I work in a place where we deal with custom jewelry orders all the time, and what with everything being done by hand, it takes time! If your wedding is less than 6 months away because the significant other is going into the military or time just is not on your side, then you should talk to the dressmaker before hand to see how full their schedule is. If it doesn't work, find something else. Now, as my wedding drew closer and the dress hadn't arrived yet, I did grow worried. For having a Halloween wedding, I kind of asked for it though. She was trying to get out many different Halloween gowns for weddings and parties that had been ordered, and mine just hadn't gotten to yet. People who asked where my dress was, were mad because of what I told them, but they wouldn't know because they weren't in my shoes. But you know what? I didn't get mad. I knew that she was doing custom work, and that it took time and that there were more people out there being grouchy with her than she deserved. My mother and her kept in contact, which helped. Anytime she was a little behind, she apologized multiple times, but once again, we understood that she was under a lot of stress. When we got the dress, I'll admit that it was a little closer than I would've liked, but the thing is, that when I put on that dress for the first time, worried if it would fit or not, all of my worry just flew off. The dress fit PERFECTLY (even though the measurements were from awhile before), and the dress was breathtaking. To think, this is a one-woman job, everything by hand and not done in a sweatshop somewhere in China, made the wait more than worth it. It had beading that was hand sewn onto the sleeves and just so many different things that we found every time we looked at it that our amazement just grew and grew. It's rare that I ever feel self-confident in how I look. Ever. I was scared as to how I would look in this dress, but to be honest, it was one of the few times I actually felt beautiful. The work that Belinda did, was able to do what many people and things couldn't. That whole evening of the wedding, I truly felt special, and Belinda made sure of it. For this being one of her busiest and most demanding years, she really came out of the dust kicking butt! If I had seen this dress in a store, I would've expected for it to cost at least $10,000. She asks so little for what she does, and she is amazing at her talent. I'm trying to find events that I can keep wearing this dress to again and again!
