I receive a phone call today from a couple in Chicago claiming to have seen my time share for sale at a Time Share seminar. I questioned the lady who's last name was Curtis, who the company was that gave her my contact info. She said they were RIG Financial. Her husband (a private investigator) and herself were pre-approved for $23K for buying my time share. She gave me her phone number and gave me RIG's phone number 877-231-7885. I should call them and get the deal going. I immediately smelled a skunk here. Why would someone out of the blue call me for my time share and not one of the companies I have it listed with? Sure enough with in 2 hours I get a phone call from "Chad Smith". Chad goes on to tell me he represents the Curtis family and they want to buy my time share. As I listen to Curtis for the "punch line" asking me for money. Sure enough it comes. He tells me the Curtis family put up $5K in escrow and now I have to do the same to close the deal. He didn't want a credit card or anything else. He wanted me to "wire it directly into their bank account from mine" I told him he was nuts. I proceeded to scream at him and tell him I'm not paying a dime. If he wants to buy my time share he's to place a bid with Time Share Adventures who is representing me. He told me ok but I still need the $5K. I got even more angry. I told him I wasn't born yesterday and told him once again. If my Time Share Adventures gives him $5K escrow then we have a deal but I am not. He said a time share is not real estate so escrow is needed from the seller. I argued it is real estate I have a deed, that's why licensed brokers from the State of Florida can sell it. Needless to say he hung up on me after 5 minutes because I would not give in. The actress who called me was very believing. She was nice sincere and seemed genuinely interested although she didn't know much about Disney points and how they worked. Don't fall for this scam!
Update on 6/4/10. Can you believe Chad Smith calls me back? This is 2 days later once again representing the Curtis family. I told him you called me 2 days ago and tried to scam me of $5K. What phone call? These people don't even remember who they called! I hung up.
