Towards the end of October of 2013 we took ownership of a Victorian-craftsman from 1905. It was really rough, and our budget to work it was/is small. We were in northern California and needed to find a plumber as well as other to go through and ready the
house for my family to move in. using a review on HomeAdvisor.com and here on yelp, I called these guys and arranged from them to meet us shortly after we get the house. Turns out the first day when they were supposed to start a water main had burst. We thought
it was wonderful timing that the plumber who was going to help us gets working bathrooms and kitchen and deal with some leaks, was going to be there to help us through this Crisis. He even knew a Restoration company that was able to coordinate with and manage
for us. My wife was in the area, but had broken her hand, so I was managing it from up north while packing up our home. He would regularly contact me to let me know what was up, and we would go over trouble areas. We made a few additional contracts for various
tasks, and of course I paid him he we want all as a "Progress Payment". The first time I can down to LA was November around thanksgiving. Nearly all the contracts at that point should have been completed. The first day I came to the house, I was there alone
till later in the afternoon when one of his guys showed up to get some tools they had left here. There seemed to something not completed, and a number of things that had been promised (little favors) had not been done. For ten days I was at the house, and
for less than 3 of them was anyone around before 10-11 and most days not till after 3. And only about 6 days was there being work actually being done. Seem like a few things that should have been done, had not yet been completed. Lack of clean up along the
way also was aggravating and lunch waste all over the various levels of the house, was an issue. When I talked to Paul he told me things would be completed, cleaned up and disposed of. We had negotiated a rebuild of the heating and some odds and ends; I headed
back up north as I had to finish our move. I told him to get everything done on the timeline we had discussed. And figure that was the end. He seems believable apologetic and reasonable excuses as to why things were in the state they were in. Long story short
basically it seemed like great promises were made, he could talk like he was a 5 star plumber, that loved to do the work and was going to give us this for a steal. But he required pressure, and hounding to after the first couple weeks to find out what was
going on. We finally get into our house the day after Christmas. but before we move it , we discover that things are not as they should be , 100 year old wood is been cut into in places and then recut ( not people who measure twice and cut once.) old external
wood paneling is gone, totally destroyed, and not replaced.( leaving our home exposed. it seems some things look little off, and when my wife tries to discuss these items with Paul the owner of Pipeworxs who is also the head plumber and onsite, , he vanishes.
and calls me freaking out about her asking questions about inappropriate materials, some questionable installations etc. I tell him I will call him back after I talk with her. She goes on to explain that he basically bugged out after she asked him a few questions
the contractor that was with her that day point out lots of weird things he saw. This whole fiasco comes to a head when I call Paul back after a couple days to get a good idea what is going on. I start by trying to tell him my wife’s concerns, he tries to
interrupt I firmly ask him to let me finish, and he stars shortly after that in a rant about "are you goona F****** me? You’re F****** me aren't you? This continues in a text message where he calls into question the quality and integrity of my wife and I.
It continued over the next few days with another e-mail threatening a mechanics lean. Now we had paid up till the end when my wife realized just how much, even items form the earlier contracts had not been completed and we were in dispute, I never one said
we would not pay, but I did want to talk about what had been done and was going on. I will update the resolution on this matter.
