I bought a motherboard/CPU/memory module combo from this company. I installed the combo in my PC, but it would not boot up. I did some research and found that the memory module (MicroX--apparently a house brand) was not certified by the motherboard's chipset manufacturer as compatible.
I contacted PartsPC.com via their "Live Help" online after an e-mail went unanswered. Rather than assist me, answer my questions, or provide me with the RMA (for the memory) I requested, they let me sit for 2 hours (at which point I finally gave up) only responding with "Wait a few minutes" or other replies I can only categorize as sarcastic.
The memory module was only a $28 item, so I purchased a compatible one from another seller and wrote this episode off as a learning experience.
Update: The new memory module made no difference so either the Mb or CPU or both is (are) at fault. I demanded an RMA (or I would dispute the CC charges) and got it, but their terms for returning defective items are onerous.
First, you pay shipping ($13). Then they reimburse only "fair market price", which can be much less than you paid. The $28 memory module, for instance, only has a refund price of $8. Then on top they apply a 15% restocking fee.
If they determine that the item is "damaged", there is no refund on it. Then if any accessory or packaging is damaged or missing, they deduct. For instance, missing/damaged packaging costs you $18. A missing/damaged manual costs $20. You get the idea.
One wonders why they are so eager to get back every piece of cardboard that came with defective hardware. I can only think of one reason.
So I expect I'll end up with no refund. They make more profit selling defective items than ones that work, so I think it would be an accident to get functioning hardware from them!
