Review 7/8/2011

My recent experience (July 2011) with Pacific Sales inside the Best Buy on Pico Blvd/Sawtelle has not been a good one. Although Pacific Sales is owned by Best Buy and operates inside Best Buy stores, their selling practices are different although you would never guess this. If you wish to return an appliance, Pacific Sales charges a 25% restocking fee although if you had purchased the same appliance through Best Buy, Best Buy does not charge a restocking fee. Confusing, isn't it? More confusing is that this practice isn't advertised, is not verbally told to the customer. If you look on the back of your bill, there you will find this policy...not on the front. I am not inexperienced in purchasing appliances since I own and manage apartment buildings. Also, this isn't the first time that I've purchased appliances from either Best Buy or Pacific Sales. Never once was I informed or was I aware that Pacific Sales and Best Buy have different selling policies regarding restocking fees. Of the three appliances that I purchased this time, two of the refrigerators were damaged. One refrigerator had two scratches, one larger on the side and one on the front but smaller. The second refrigerator had a grill which was crushed in the back of the refrigerator. I asked that one refrigerator be exchanged and the more expensive Samsung which had been purchased for my manager, be returned. Basically, the sales person explained that Pacific Sales had to "protect itself" and that's why they charged the restocking fee. They wanted to charge a $500.00 restocking fee for the return of the Samsung but, decided to give me $200 to keep the other damaged refrigerator and charged me $300 in total. I feel cheated by unfair sales practices. There should be a large sign warning customers that there is a 25% restocking fee which is not small given the price of appliances these days. Also, do not assume that Best Buy and Pacific Sales have the same practices even though Best Buy owns Pacific Sales. This is a mistake which will never happen again to me. I'm moving my business elsewhere. Just be warned!
