I called Mike Diamond Plumbing Inc. because the control handle for my bathtub's water source had broken off. Up pulled a George Brazil truck - they are now under the same owners. After a lot of head-shaking and mumbling about how serious the problem was, I was finally given an estimate of $1037 which included the $76 service call. I was told the work would take 2-3 hours because the entire shower valve assembly required replacement. I told him I couldn't afford that, signed the paperwork for the useless service call fee and called someone else. The new plumber was from a much smaller local company. The work simply required the replacement of the valve cartridge, it was done in 20 minutes tops and the total charge was $145.00!! The only good thing I can say about Mike Diamond's company is that I phoned them the next day, told them how the problem was repaired and told them NOT to put through the charge for their service call - and they agreed to that. It has never been debited to my credit card. What I learned is to avoid like the plague any plumber who advertises constantly on the radio and can afford full-page ads in the yellow pages. The smaller local guys are much more likely to want repeat business and referrals and that's their motivation to treat you with honesty and integrity.
