I contacted a kitchen cabinet supplier to estimate repair work on my kitchen. He recommended McGinnis Remodeling of Upland CA. Matt McGinnis came out and agreed with me that the insurance estimate was incomplete. He further stated that he could not do the work for the stated claim.
I called for an adjuster, who came out and re-evaluated the claim. The Sr. Adjuster re-wrote the claim, adding what was left out. Mr. McGinnis still would not do the work for the stated amount. He said that the insurance company would not talk to him without a work authorization. I signed an authorization to give him access to the claim, which he was unsuccessful.
The problem was that he asked for thousands more to do the work. Several other contractors felt the claim was complete, and the prices fair. Prior to the ordering any materials, I rescinded the work authorization for McGinnis Remodeling.
McGinnis Remodeling FILED A TITLE LIEN AGAINST OUR HOME for more than $4,000 to recover what he claims the insurance company would have paid him for profit and overhead.
To date I have no repairs....and McGinnis wants money, or ultimately, our home.
McGinnis Remodeling advertises "Since 1978". A license search indicates that the first license recorded was issued to the Upland business in 1991.
