I had one of the worst experiences with the Washington Mutual Bank (that is becoming Chase) while banking at this location. I went to deposit a government Registered Warrant check for my tax return on October 2nd. Deposit transaction went smooth. On Monday, October 6th my money I deposited on the 2nd were revoked and bank hit me with the $12 fee. After calling on the toll-free number on the back of my Washington Mutual debit card (1-800-788-7000) I was told that I have to call Washington Mutual as this number was allocated to Chase customers. I said that I was in fact calling Washington Mutual as I dialed the number from the back of my Washington Mutual debit card. I was finally transferred to a different customer service representative who told me that she did not know why the check I have deposited was returned. She connected me with a manager. Neither representative nor manager stated their names or had a slight courtesy to apologize for putting me on hold three times while transferring my call between departments. The manager told me that Chase does not accept these checks and since Washington Mutual is now part of Chase, it does not accept it either. To my question why they allowed to deposit this check at first place she did not have any answer. To my question what should I do now, she said, she did not know. When I asked if I had to close my account and choose a different bank, or even better, a credit union, the manager said, "I don't care. Switch if you wish".
