TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
There are two main issues. I never received my deposit back, and I believe that I was wrongfully charged with cancellation fees. I had a 2 year contract with Helio, which is now owned by Virgin Mobile. At the time of purchase of the plan (Feb 2007) I had bad credit and was required to put down a $300 deposit. I was told that if I either made 12 consecutive on time payments, or ended my contract, I would receive my $300 deposit back. At the end of one year I called and was first told that they had no deposit on record, and asked if I had a receipt. I told them I would search for the receipt and call back. My fiancé called back a couple of days later, after I found the receipt and they said that I hadn't made 12 consecutive payments, so I would have to wait to the end of my 2 year contract. He was also told at that time my contract would be up in February 2009. During the month of February 2009, I began shopping around for other plans, because I did not like how Helio operated. I decided to switch to Verizon, but didn't want to cancel my Helio plan because I didn't want to be charged an early termination fee. So, in February, I signed up with Verizon, and ported my Helio number over to them. I never called Helio to cancel my contract, because I had all intentions of paying them for the last month of service. A couple of weeks later I call Helio to see about my deposit once again. They inform me that they have no record of my deposit, and that I am being charged an early termination fee because I cancelled my contract early. I told them that I never called in to cancel. First the person told me that I did call in to cancel. I then again insisted that I never called in. The person then told me that if your port your number over to another company, that is automatically canceling (which I was not aware of, nor was it anywhere on their website). I tried to reason with them stating that it doesn't state that anywhere and besides I was told my contract was over in February anyway. They then told me that my contract was up at the end of February and not the beginning, and therefore I was being charged $344 for the cancellation of 2 phones. I continued to try and reason with them even asking for a supervisor and go nowhere. Next I moved on to the issue of my deposit. They said that they had no record of my deposit. My fiancé and I told them that we had a receipt with a transaction number, they told me that they couldn't look it up, and that their records didn't go back that far. We went back and for with them for hours. When we would ask for a supervisor, they would say that there weren't any. We asked if we could fax a copy of the receipt over, and they gave us a hard time. They said that they would have someone call us back, but no one ever did. A couple of weeks later I receive a letter from a collection agency stating that my Helio account is in collections (mind you, the bill wasn't even due yet, how could it be in collections that fast?) I continued to receive bills from Helio AND the collection agency on the behalf of Helio. No one from Helio has ever gotten back to me. The collection agency calls my several times a day, every day. I would like my $300 deposit back, or have it credited to my account so that I don't owe anything. I would also like the 2 early cancellation fees to be taken off.
