The advertising was first class and the salesman was friendly and responsive. The price was about 10% below the average bid. However, I encountered several problems: while the salesman described the employees as highly competent, my job was performed by an individual with very little experience and his friend, who did not speak English, had no sign of having had any roofing experience whatsoever; roof was removed without covering—a well-published rain drenched all the contents of the structure, about 600’ sq; rotting of a corner facing board was "overlooked" and not replaced;
There was no beneficial response to my calls--for those that were returned. No physical address—they work out of a post box and the phone number given me was from an individual working out of her home when she was available and not taking care of her child. Tom Garvey finally came out and told me that over-looking the rotting corner facing boards, located out of view from the from of the structure, was consistent with his standards; and, anyway, nothing could be done to replace them without tearing up the roof. He suggested I repair it with auto putty. Tom is very friendly and seemed quite competent as a roofer, but he did not do the work and no one from his company inspected it until he did after I had paid the full amount and called numerous times. Health problems for me did not make feasible my option of challenging him through arbitration or other means.
My last call to them was about April 24, 2008 to see if they would do me a minor favor as a showing of good faith for my losses. Neither of my 2 calls, left with their answering service, were returned. They really don't seem to care about integrity.

Business's response - by J. Masterson 6/1/2009

Hello Mr. or Ms. Brown:
My name is Jill Masters and I've recently been hired by Garvey Roofing to do customer service.
I would like to apologize for your experience. The workers you mentioned in your review are no longer with Garvey Roofing. In addition, the "receptionist" with the child is no longer with our company. We are greatly disturbed by your comments and would like to rectify the situation if you will allow us.
I am sorry that I am unable to identify through our records your particular job, so this was my only means of contacting you.
You are correct that the address on Foothill Boulevard in Monrovia is a mailbox. While we have an industrial garage that houses our vehicles and equipment, like many contractors, we work from our homes. I also work from my home, but can assure you that I have no children, nor any other interruptions, that would distract me from assisting you in resolving your complaint. I realize that it has been over a year, but I would like to see what we might do for you to satisfy your experience with Garvey Roofing.
Our business relies on referrals from satisfied customers and I would like to count you among them if you feel this is possible. Please contact me at your earliest convenience so that I can address this situation.
I hope, too, your health issues are now better.
Best,
Jill Masters for Garvey Roofing
