My experience with Florida Auto Rental was positive except for one major problem. Their contract states that they will charge your credit card a $40 fee if you fail to pay parking & toll violations or any type of ticket/citation, and note: this is regardless of the cost of that violation. When a responsible driver such as myself signs this agreement, it is in full agreement to abide by it. As vacationers having accidentally missed a .75 cent toll due to poor signage and unfamiliarity of Florida, I got a surprise charge on my credit card almost 6 weeks after I returned home to Ohio (and never received the letter they claimed they sent me). When I called Florida Auto Rental to explain I did not intentionally run a toll, they refused to refund the $40 fee because they said it cost them time to pay the .75 cents. Even though it was accidental, I would not have minded paying a small fee, perhaps $5. The UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICE IS CHARGING SUCH A LARGE FEE FOR SUCH A SMALL VIOLATION - the punishment does not fit the crime, so to speak. I conclude that this is a scam. I also notifed the Florida E-pass to state my case. Thank you, Star McCarthy
