Insist on Performance by First American HBPC
I've read a disturbing number of complaints about First American HBPC. Maybe a class action suit will be sensible, although I haven't decided to go there yet. And, I can't say if other providers are more responsible, but I am approaching my renewal month and will almost certainly go with another company after three years with First American. I am in the process of pleading another claim now. Without going into detail, here are my concluding remarks in a letter to their COO and their Area Manager (who's e-mail address that I obtained from the web site is invalid): "Frustratingly, it seems First American is not able to monitor and respond when its contractors do not follow through on service calls and reports; its contractors are not well qualified and reliable as promoted by First American; Customer Service is unable to respond as it promises to policy holders during claim handling; and there is no internal means of registering and resolving complaints about service. Starting with the air conditioning claim we filed by telephone on or about July 24, 2012, the second contractor is scheduled to visit our home tomorrow August 17, 2012. The repair authorization, parts assembly and repair process has not even begun yet. But for the time of year, and if this were not typical of our experience with First American, I would be more relaxed. Under the circumstances, this is inexcusable." I have found that there is no mechanism for registering complaints or making corrective action at First American. They actually referred me to the Better Business Bureau instead. I found that ludicrous at first, but later did exactly that. I beg you all to do the same. It seems to be the only way to make a complaint, and is one of the most likely places where potential new customers will look before spending money with First American. With this in mind, it may be one of the only effective means of motivating First American to keep its commitments.
