Review 1/14/2010

I am extremely disappointed with this company. I am in debt, like many other Americans. I've been in debt consolidation for 3 years...2 more years to go, but my payments are a small fortune and I'm struggling. In desperation I contacted F.I.R.E. International. They certainly are smooth talkers and very persuasive when you feel you can't keep your head above water. I signed up, and was going to cancel my consolidation. In the process I found that whatever FIRE settles your debt for...well, the negotiated amount needs to be reported to the IRS and you pay taxes on it. Also, your credit rating plummets. I know they have "credit correction", but I had a bad feeling and canceled my account within 3 days of receiving the welcome packet, almost a month before the first payment was to be drafted. I sent it via certified mail and received signed receipt. They proceeded to draft my account on Jan 11, 2010 anyway (contract stated draft was to be on the 15th.) They claim they did not receive my cancellation until Jan 11 (when I faxed them a copy with all supporting certified mail documentation.) I was told that they were closed a week for the holidays (so even though someone signed for it, they won't honor the true received date). And they state that because I didn't cancel 5 days after I received the contract, they won't return my draft and I still owe them more money. Maybe I misunderstood the contract, maybe I'm stuck with this mess now, but I found them very unforgiving, very raw, and simply out to make money. What you need to know, is in order for them to give you any type of quote, you have to agree to the contract online....so they suck you in right there, and if you did what I did....wait for the welcome packet to really get the gist of the situation and decide to cancel, your out of luck too because it's after the 5 days. For the life of me I can't figure out what I owe them because they've done nothing, contacted no-one (because I chose not to return any "mandatory" forms). So if you're like me...and you feel like you're drowning in debt....don't get desperate like I did. Go to your city or state for legit agencies...ask around...go to your local library, but don't do what I did because now I'm so stuck....Please be careful!!!!
