I paid $1,995 to Deb Barter, Inc six months ago. After countless phone calls and visits to the company, I found out that my home is now two weeks away from a foreclosure sale. David Lapietro, President won't return my calls. The people in the office couldn't show me ANY package that had been submitted to the mortgage company. The person who wrote the other BBB review, mentioned that Debt Barter has been "life changing" for them. I agree with only that much - being homeless is definitely going to be LIFE CHANGING.
Before paying anyone to negotiate your mortgage, go to the website http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov. It specifically states, "Beware of any person or organization that asks you to pay a fee in exchange for housing counseling services or modification of a delinquent loan. Do not pay – walk away!"
