Horrible experience

STAY AWAY from this company. I cannot even express the incompetence and ignorance we encountered while securing a mortgage from them. My husband chose them because they had an excellent interest rate, but what a mistake! We dealt with Eric Hanko, who up until the week of our settlement seemed to be on top of things. Then, a few days before closing, it all fell apart. We were set to close on a Thurs, and on the Friday before my husband emailed Eric to make sure we had provided all necessary documents. Mr Hanko got back to us on TUESDAY, four days later, to give us a list of no less than 13 items he wanted, most of which we had no idea were needed until that moment. My husband frantically got all the items into Eric's email by first thing Wed morning. Mr Hanko then proceeded to need a few MORE documents, which my husband quickly provided. After reassuring us several times that the settlement would occur on time and that we were fine, Eric emailed us, our realtor, and the title agency at 8:30pm the night before settlement to say that "realistically, we would be closing on FRIDAY, b/c the funder needed to review the package." This was something that should have been mentioned BEFORE and we had no idea why he would tell us all was good to go just hours earlier. We were in a position where we were selling our home the same day, so essentially we'd be homeless if we didn't settle on Thurs. We spent all day Thurs with our realtor trying to make settlement happen. Eric asked for MORE unexpected documents, and when he had them he simply told us that our package was ready but the funder was dealing with 'higher priority' mortages. She had it on her desk but wouldn't be getting to it soon. !?! We had MISSED our settlement at that point, wouldn't that be considered high priority? Finally as the day went on we accepted that we would have to settle on Friday-- only to get an email from Mr. Hanko saying that "our best case scenario was closing on MONDAY." There was no apology included or any kind of responsiblity taken. (We wound up paying daily rent to move into our new house early, money that we shouldn't have had to pay if American Interbanc had done it's job.) To make matters worse, on Monday we had to sit at settlement for an extra 90 minutes waiting for American Interbanc to clear MORE documents they needed last minute. All of this would have been an easier pill to swallow if they had had some sort of decent customer service. Mr Hanko was cold and unconcerned about the whole situation, and beyond unhelpful. He rarely returned calls, only emails. When asked by my husband to speak to his supervisor, he claimed the 'funder' Mary was the head of the branch, and there was no one else. He refused to put her on the phone, and when my husband called her directly she would not return his messages (which were polite and pleading for some sort of explanation and resolution.) This company was HORRIBLE to deal with, and had our situation been different, if we been moving a long distance away, it would have really been an extremely costly and inconvenient problem.
Don't use this company, the interest rate is NOT worth it!
