I want to PRAISE THE OUTSTANDING SERVICE PROVIDED BY #1 STATE PLUMBING'S OWNER, ART HOVSEPIAN. Last week, he fixed my plumbing problem promptly, at a fair price, with a life-time guarantee, AND explained how simple fixing the plumbing matter really was, so that I could better defend myself against another plumbing company who had failed to repair the problem and was trying to charge me for superfluous work that had nothing to do with what was truly the matter.
ART CAME TO MY RESCUE, since I was very frustrated with the other plumbing company, who had grossly misled me with their evaluation of what needed repair and their exorbitant cost estimate, which was unconscionable. I had called the other company a few days earlier to assess why my washing machine was overflowing, flooding the floor and also backflowing into the kitchen sink, every time a laundry load drained.
The other company's technician did not even go underneath the house to check the pipes. Instead, the technician said it was, "definitely a sewer line blockage caused by tree roots, since that is a big problem in all the houses in the vicinity." The technician quoted me $325.00 and said he needed to run a rooter through the toilet about 90 feet to the City sewer line juncture to obliterate tree roots that were blocking my sewer line pipe, causing the laundry drain pipe to clog and the washing machine to overflow. However, this did not fix the washing machine overflow problem. The company tech returned, this time going underneath the house to inspect the pipes, and said there was a broken laundry drain pipe that needed replacement, but that also there was a sewer line clog that required partial replacement of sewer line piping, otherwise the washing machine overflow problem would just continue to return and he quoted me $2,500.00 to resolve this problem.
I became very suspicious of the other company and called #1 State Plumbing for a second opinion. Art was patient and explained that if I did not have a problem with any backflow from the toilet into the shower (which I did not) there was no reason the other company should have removed the toilet to do a rooter of the sewer line. Art said that since the overflow was isolated to the laundry room and kitchen, it was a simple matter to fix; he quoted me $500.00 for repairs and said he wouldn't invoice me until a few days after the repairs, in order for me to test the washing machine and feel confident that the problem had been repaired properly.
Well, Art stuck to his word, fixed the problem and I haven't had any more problems with the washing machine overflowing. As an added bonus, I was able to use the information from Art's invoice regarding what really needed repair (replacement of 35 feet of horizontal drainpipe from kitchen and washing machine and tie into existing drain pipe under the bathroom) to articulately contest the other plumbing company's fraud and threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau and the Contractors State License Board. Fortunately, the other company canceled their invoice, did not charge me for their superfluous rooter work, and I avoided entering into a $2,500.00 repair contract with the other company.
